Rex Nielsen
Poway, California
Rex Hartley Nielsen, 80, passed away October 24, 2019. Rex was born February 14, 1939 in Richfield, Utah to Harvey and Fontella Nielsen. Rex was the youngest of three boys. His brothers are Mayo and Merrill (deceased) Nielsen. Since he was a Valentine baby, his mom gave him the name of "Hartley".
Shortly after high school graduation, Rex got a job with Litton Industries as a field engineer trained to repair the guidance systems in Navy jets. Rex’s job with Litton brought this small town boy to St. Louis, Missouri where he met his future wife, Rose Marie. The couple was married on December 24, 1966 in Las Vegas, NV.
Rex’s job with Litton moved the family all over the United States. Over the years, they lived in Utah, Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma, Ohio, Illinois, and finally California.
Rex and Rose Marie have three daughters: Shelley (Dave) Norris, Trabuco Canyon, CA; Janice (Stephen) Orr, Pickerington, OH; Stacy (Don) Mitchell, Poway, CA. They have 6 grandchildren.
Rex was a family man who enjoyed tinkering with computers and reading the newspaper…especially the Richfield Reaper. He also loved to go back home to Richfield every chance he could.
