Ralph Jay Pomeroy

June 26, 1939 — June 21, 2017

Major Ralph Pomeroy

US Army, Retired

Ralph Jay Pomeroy, "Mr. P", Major Pomeroy, Coach Pomeroy, and "Pinky", 77, would like you to know he has completed his work here on earth, and has accepted a call to return to his Heavenly Father and begin a much greater work. His new assignment comes with sadness to his family and friends, but comes with great joy as he will again be with his parents; baby daughter Becky; and father-in-law Lewis Young. He will again be able to do the things he loved that his earthly body has prevented him from doing for so long, such as playing football, gardening, quoting John Wayne, playing cowboy, remodeling, singing, telling jokes, running the farm, commanding the troops, coaching sports, trading Hot Wheels cars, routing for the University of Arizona, driving school buses, teaching kids, and most of all, mowing the lawn.

Dad passed away June 21, 2017 at his home in Richfield. He was born June 26, 1939 in Phoenix, Arizona to Ralph and Cecille Skousen Pomeroy. His life was driven by three main things: his LDS Church service, his public school service, and his United States Army Military service. He served with joy in the capacity of bishopric member, high councilman, and Chaplain to the Arizona State Prison-Florence, where he created an LDS branch. He worked for the public school system for over 40 years as teacher, principal, and superintendent. He served in the US Army for thirty years, and served a tour of duty in Vietnam as a captain. While humility kept him from speaking of it, every man who served under him in Vietnam came home.

Dad’s companion of 42 years, Dolores Young Pomeroy, will stay behind until the time comes for them to be together again. Their life began on July 11, 1975 in the Mesa Arizona Temple. They were blessed with four children: Troy Pomeroy, Melinda (Nathan) Costa, Rebecca Kay Pomeroy, and Emily Marie Pomeroy; and four grandchildren: Kaytlin, Samantha, Aylianna, and Ethan Costa. Ever the big brother, his younger brothers: Barry (Cathy) Pomeroy and Neils ‘Butch’ Pomeroy were never far from his mind.

Dad’s last roundup will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Magleby Mortuary Chapel where friends may call after 9 a.m. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery with military honors by V.F.W. Post #5050 and Utah Honor Guard. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti. Online guestbook at www.maglebymortuary.com

The family would like to thank Zions Way Hospice for the loving and gentle way they cared for their husband and father during the final days of his life, especially Cami, Roxie, Alanda, Debbie, Elsa and Reagan.
