R. Lynn Nielson, 96, of Manti, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2015. Lynn was born on November 9, 1918 to Alice Johnson and John R. Nielson Jr. and enjoyed a wonderful childhood.
Lynn served his country during World War II were he earned a Bronze Star during his 4 years in the Pacific. He returned to the Pacific, Samoa, as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Lynn married Shirely Larsen on June 21, 1958 in the Manti Temple.
Lynn earned his Masters Degree and worked for the Utah Fish & Game and later worked for the USDA in Manti. He served in many callings in the church including Bishop and in the scouting organization. Lynn and Shirley together worked as temple workers and served missions to Spokane Washington and Alaska.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Ryan (Darla) Nielson, Eileen (Reuben) Judd, Sam (Paula) Nielson, Wayne (Lannette) Nielson, Mara (Charles) Elison, Karen (Keith) Jones; siblings, Margaet (Con) Keller and VeLois (Dennis) Carbine. Lynn loved all his family, especially his 36 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Alma Errol, Eve, Martha Alice, John Henrie and grandchildren, Talita Jones and Gideon Jones.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Manti Stake Center, 555 East Union. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary, Manti on Monday, October 5, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and prior to services on Tuesday at the Church from 9:00-10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Manti City Cemetery with Military Honors by the Manti American Legion Post #31.
