Phyllis Jean Jenson Larson Cowley, 96, passed away November 28, 2023 in Centerfield. She was born October 12, 1927 in Salina to Derall and Myrtle Madsen Jenson, the third of five children. She married Ronald Larson on July 5, 1944 in the Manti Temple. She was expecting their fourth child when he died in an accident on November 7, 1959. Phyllis married Richard Cowley on October 13, 1962 in Las Vegas. She became a step mother to three children and together they had a daughter. Richard preceded her in death on April 4, 2009.
A woman of unfailing faith and fortitude, Phyllis was an amazing woman. She faced a lot of challenges in her life, from the unexpected and early death of her first husband and the death of her 2nd husband. She had to bury three of her children. After her daughter Carol’s death, she raised two grandsons. Family was most important to her.
She spent her whole life being a homemaker and raising 10 children. She had a very large garden and she did a lot of canning and freezing of vegetables.
Phyllis was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and always held a position in the ward.
Survived by her children: Wayne Larson, Paul (Lynn) Larson and Sheryl (Jan) Holle; Richard’s children: Trent Cowley and Rosalie Cowley (KC Tabor); daughter-in-law, Kaye (Ken) Sivori, Joseph (Mette) Cowley, Logan Cowley; 20 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.
Also preceded in death by her parents and children: Carol Larson Quinn and Dennis Larson ; step-son, Craig Cowley; daughters-in-law, Cara Larson, Raelene Cowley; siblings: Richard, Belva, Yvonne, and an infant sister, Cleo.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 11;00 a.m. in the Axtell Ward Chapel, where friends may call Wednesday evening from 6-7 p.m. or Thursday morning from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Centerfield Cemetery.
