Phylis Allred
Centerfield, Utah
Phylis Childs Allred was born premature on February 2, 1938 to Rodney and Vivian Jensen Childs. The doctor did not think she would survive the night. Eighty-seven years later she passed at home, on March 12, 2025, after suffering many health issues.
Phylis was born and raised in Centerfield, the oldest of five children. She was fed from an eyedropper and warmed in a shoe box on the lid of the stove the first days of her life. She grew up with loving parents and siblings and graduated from Gunnison High School in 1956 and a month later she married her sweetheart, Ace J. Allred. Together they raised 4 boys in Layton: John, Bruce, Gary and Kevin.
Phylis retired from Hill Air Force Base after 22 years. She and Ace became snowbirds and spent many winters in Quartzsite, Arizona before moving back to spend the last years in her hometown of Centerfield.
Phylis was raised a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was active and faithful to the end. She served in Primary, Cub Scouts, and three different Relief Society presidencies in every location she lived. She worked many hours doing extraction work for the temple, as well as quilting, crocheting and making baby blankets for many to enjoy.
In raising her four sons she spent many hours in the stands watching ball games and keeping score. She said she lived in a men’s dormitory and was happy when she finally got a granddaughter to buy frilly things for.
She is survived by her husband, Ace; sons: John Rodney, Gary James, and Kevin (Jessica) Allred; siblings: RaNea (Evan) Hansen, LaRue (Alvin) Billings, and VaNile Childs. She leaves behind a legacy of 12 grandkids and 22 great-grandkids.
Preceded in death by her parents; son, Bruce (Carol) Allred; brother, Lee Rodney Childs; daughter-in-law Malinda (John’s wife); granddaughter, Amy (John and Malinda).
