Phillip Rogers
Cedar City, Utah
Phillip Lawrance Rogers, 77, passed away August 28, 2014 in St. George. He was born October 28, 1936 in Los Angeles to John L. and Alida Gilcrest Rogers. He married Patricia Ann Hunsley, November 18, 1971, in Santa Ana, California. The marriage was later solemnized in the Los Angeles Temple. She preceded him in death, May 4, 2010. He married Mary Sharon Dalton, September 29, 2012 in the St. George Temple.
Phillip served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. As a young man he was small and scrappy, he would never back down. In high school he played football as a full back, playing with leather helmets and without the protections used today. He had plenty of bumps, bruises and broken noses to show for it.
Phillip loved working with his hands. Most importantly, he was a very hard worker who wasn’t afraid of any job. When he was younger he worked as a paint contractor, painting for many of the Hollywood stars. He worked a number of years as an executive for the Benjamin Moore Paint Company.
A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Phillip served in many callings, including bishop, high councilor and lately as an ordinance worker in the St. George Temple.
Family was the most important part of his life. He loved you and treated you like family whether you came to him by blood, adoption or marriage. He is loved by his large family.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon, of Cedar City; children: Michael (Terri) Rogers, Cedar City; Pamela Morton, Las Vegas; Alicia (Dave) Root, AL; step-children: Jeff (Julie) Ray, Matthew (Jo) Whittaker, Christopher (Debbie) Whittaker, Connie (Cleve) Weaver, Nathan Whittaker; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Bob Rogers, Sacramento, CA.
