Phillip Carl Nielson, 93, St. George, passed away June 1, 2024 in St. George, peacefully in his sleep after a fall and a short hospital stay. He was born January 20, 1931, to Phillip Vernal and Eldrie Irene Sorenson Nielson. Phillip grew up in Richfield Utah and was always a hard worker. He started plucking turkeys at the age of 9. At 14 years of age he started at Parsons Bakery as a clean up boy which led to him being a baker. Phillip served in the Korean War before coming home and marrying the love of his life Rose Marie Magleby, June 18, 1952 in the Manti Utah Temple. She proceeded him in death March 27, 2004. Phillip and Rose Marie were successful business owners of Nielson's Bakery in St George from 1972 to 1998. He was loved in the community and known for his scratch bakery skills. He was a member of the VFW. He loved being an initiatory worker in the St George Temple and served in the Sunday School presidency and the Elders quorum presidency. Phillip had a love of outdoors and helped lower the population of deer and fish on Utah mountains. He loved gardening and always provided well for his family. He was an expert in tying flies for fishing, and polishing rocks. He created his memory wall using polished rocks to frame his many photos. In his later years he loved riding in the hills with his family looking for pine nuts, special rocks, and overall just enjoying the outdoors. Phillip also loved music. He played the guitar when he had a young family and would sing fun, silly songs that his children still remember and sing today. Phillip is survived by his children: Vickie Lynn Warnick, Richfield; John Phillip Nielson, St. George; Diane Marie (Jerry) Adams, Payson; Julie Dawn Mutcher, Richfield; Carl Duane (Carol) Nielson, St. George; and Natalie Rose (Nicholas) Smith, Florida; 46 grandchildren and 73 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dean, Stanley (Frankie), and Steve (Patsy) Nielson; and brother-in-law, Jake Bagley. He is also preceded in death by parents, Vernal and Eldrie; son-in-law, Darrell Warnick; two sisters, Enid (Bill) Holt and Pam Bagley; sister-in-law, Gerri Nielson. Funeral services will be held, Friday, June 7, 2024 at 11 a.m. in the Magleby Mortuary Chapel. Viewing at the mortuary will be from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery.
