Phil Casto Jensen, 91, passed away June 10, 2014 in Richfield. He was born April 27, 1923 in Glenwood to James Louis and Ella Casto Jensen. He graduated from Richfield High School and served in the U.S. Navy. Following his military service he attended Colorado State University.
Returning to Utah, Phil married Erma Sorenson on August 16, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. Making their home in Glenwood, they had a wonderful life together, enjoying the outdoors: camping, fishing, hunting and boating. They had no children, but had close ties with Erma’s family, enjoying many outings at Fish Lake and Lake Powell, and hosting family parties and holiday celebrations at their home.
Phil was employed at the U.S. Gypsum Co., Tri-State Lumber Co, and was manager of Valley Builders Lumber Co. in Richfield for 28 years. He was a member of the Richfield Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, and Elks Lodge.
Phil served as mayor of Glenwood for two terms, and served on the town council for 12 years. On April 27, 2003, he was presented a key to the city of Glenwood in honor and recognition of service, example and contribution to the Glenwood town. Phil and Erma served in the Glenwood Ward MIA, loving their calling and the youth loved them.
Erma passed away with cancer on October 8, 1982. He married Dorth Powell Rickenbach in 1983. He enjoyed 22 years with Dorth and her family before her untimely death on February 17, 2005. Dorth’s children have continued a caring relationship with him, visiting often.
Phil married Audra Madsen Oldroyd on September 27, 2009. They have enjoyed a wonderful companionship for the past five years, attending special occasions with Audra’s children and grandchildren and trips with Kathy and Mel. Audra lovingly cared for Phil, especially the past two years as his health failed.
Phil is survived by his wife, Audra; sister-in-law, Kathy (Mel) Hyatt; brother-in-law, Perry (Sally) Sorenson, and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ila Dean (Mel) Kludt; brothers; Rue and Verl; sisters: Beth, LaVaun and Helen.
The family extends appreciation to Rena and her staff at the Beehive Home in Richfield for the kindness and loving care they have provided.
Funeral services will be held will be held Monday, June 16, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Glenwood Ward Chapel, where friends may call 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery with military rites by the V.F.W.
