Paul Hampton White, 90, died peacefully on the morning of February 7, 2013, at his home in Richfield, surrounded by his beloved wife and family. He was born October 17, 1922 in Foreston, South Carolina to Paul Hampton White, Sr. and Ola Emma Stukes. His father died when he was ten, and his only brother, Chupeine, died from an electrical accident at the age of 22. Paul lived in South Carolina until he moved to Washington DC in 1941 to work at the Capitol Building. He served in the US Air Force from 1943 until the end of World War II in 1945.
Paul married Marilyn Poulson on June 27,1945, in the Salt Lake Temple, and soon after made their home in Richfield. Even though he lived in Richfield well over fifty years, he retained a slight Southern accent. Paul considered his posterity to be his greatest possession. He and Marilyn are the parents of six children—three girls and three boys, thirty grandchildren, and forty-three great- grandchildren.
Paul owned a jewelry store on Main Street in Richfield for over twenty years, and was well known for his honesty. Paul would often provide a small repair or other service free of charge. He believed in treating his customers as he would want to be treated. He sold his business in 1970 and shortly thereafter began working for the LDS Church. He greatly enjoyed this work supervising the maintenance of the Church buildings in his area, and cherished his association with many wonderful Church members.
Paul served in numerous positions in the LDS Church, including a counselor in the Sevier Stake presidency from 1967 to 1977. During their retirement years, he and his wife served five full-time missions. Paul was set apart as a temple sealer while serving a mission to the Manila Philippines Temple, and had the opportunity to perform the sealing ordinance for most of his married grandchildren.
His children and their spouses are Susan (Glenn) Merrell, Richfield; Elaine (Bob) Folsom, Tempe, AZ; Diane (Greg) Winfield, Virginia Beach, VA; Richard (Janet) White, Orem; Russell (GayLyn) White, Tremonton; and Ronald (Helen) White, Mesa, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Chupeine; and daughter, Diane.
