Paul Peter Dyreng, 88, passed away suddenly on February 5, 2017 in Gunnison, Utah surrounded by family. Paul was born September 22, 1928 in Manti, Utah to Ray Peter and Nettie May Wintch Dyreng. He was one of eight children including a twin sister. He grew up in Manti and graduated from Manti High School. After attending BYU, USU and fulfilling an LDS mission to the Eastern States, he married his high school sweetheart Delma Tuttle on December 27, 1950 in the Manti LDS Temple. Delma preceded him in death, December 7, 2014.
Paul and Delma moved to Gunnison in 1954 after purchasing a farm and later entering the dairy business. Paul loved the farm and nothing brought him greater joy than working alongside his sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In addition to farming, Paul served on various state dairy boards and was honored with various awards including the Governor’s Award presented to an outstanding Utah dairy farming family. He will be remembered for his selfless service in the community, church, and to his family. He held many offices in the Jaycees, Lions Club and served on the Gunnison City Council. He also served on the Gunnison Valley Hospital Board and the Snow College Foundation Board.
Paul was called to serve as bishop at the young age of 28 and continued to serve faithfully in the Church as stake president, patriarch, temple ordinance worker, and sealer. He loved people. He was generous, kind, and accepting of all. Emulating our Savior’s example, Paul went about doing good.
Paul and Delma were the parents of 5 children, 23 grandchildren, and 46 great-grandchildren. Many hours were spent together at their home, in the mountains, at Lake Powell or at the farm. His teachings and example leave a legacy of testimony, dedication, hard work, and family fun.
He is survived by his children and their spouses: Allen (Diane) Dyreng, Richard (Annette) Dyreng, Kent (Tamara) Dyreng, DeAnne (Russell) Anderson, Jed (Ann) Dyreng; sister Pauline Dyreng Poulson. Preceded in death by his wife, Delma.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 11, at 12:00 Noon at the Gunnison Stake Center, 80 West Center, where friends may call Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, and Saturday 9:30 to 11:30 am.
