Paul Caldwell

Gunnison, Utah

Paul Anthony Caldwell, 84, passed away March 7, 2017, in Gunnison. He was born May 17, 1932, to LeRoy Caldwell and Dorothy Marie Nielsen Caldwell in Centerfield, Utah. He married Gerda Anderson on November 24, l956 in Centerfield. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple.

Paul was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He graduated from Gunnison High School, attended Snow College and BYU for a short time, then proudly served his country in the United States Army.

Our family mourns the loss of this generous and kind man. Paul was a gentle man with a great sense of humor. He was loving, quiet, reserved and loyal to his family. Paul’s two fundamental devotions in life were family and work. He worked hard to provide and care for them. He had a strong work ethic and through example instilled that ethic into his children. He excelled musically and enjoyed playing the trombone in the band, "All That Jazz", directed by Dr. Jan Christensen, and included his children Kay C. (on drums) and Angela Marie (on saxophone). Paul had a successful driving career with W. S. Hatch Co., in Woods Cross, Utah; Jack B. Kelly, Amarillo, Texas; and Barney Trucking, Salina, Utah. He was awarded Utah Driver of the Year, by the Utah Motor Transport Association in l994. Also, Short-Line Driver of the Year by the Utah Safety Council. Our loving husband, father and grandfather will be greatly missed.

Paul leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Gerda; daughter,
Angela Marie Tomkins; son, Kay C. (Kim) Caldwell; neice, Janette Hoggan Eatchel; 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Rhea (Terrel) Nelson; brother, Morris Caldwell. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Wallace (Doris) Caldwell; sister, Viva (Jay) Jenson; infant brother, Will LeRoy Caldwell.
