Oma Patterson

Oma Jackman Patterson, 92,  passed away Friday May 18, 2012 in St. George, UT.  She was born February 10, 1920 in Monroe, UT to Ezbon L. Jackman and Killarnia Moore.
Oma graduated from South Sevier High School and went to Salt Lake City to work.  She met James N. Patterson in Salt Lake while he was in the Army Air Corps. Oma and Patt were married on August 24, 1943 in Boise City, OK. Patt was stationed in Harlingen, Texas where they had their first son, James Ezbon. After the service Patt and Oma moved back to Boise City where they were active in the VFW and Women’s Auxiliary. They had a son - Edward Layton, a daughter – Sylvia Fern and son – Randy Earl.
In 1957 the family moved to Amarillo, Texas so that Sylvia could have special schooling for blindness. In Amarillo, Oma worked in the cafeteria for the Amarillo schools and as an election judge for the county.   Patt retired from the maintenance department of the school district.
In 1961 Patt joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Oma and Patt were sealed in the Manti Utah Temple in 1963. Oma and Patt were stalwarts in the Amarillo Branch, and later the Amarillo Ward of the LDS Church filling leadership positions and missions.
Patt passed away in 1990 and Oma moved to Orem, UT in 1995 where she continued to give service to neighbors and friends.  She later lived with her son Randy in St. George UT, and in Cedar City, UT with daughter Sylvia.   She enjoyed doing family history and was active in Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
Oma is survived by all four of her children: James (Betty) Patterson, Layton (Sharon) Patterson, Sylvia (Joel) Clements, and Randy (Dixie) Patterson; 14 grandchildren and 35 great- grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 25, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Joseph Ward Chapel in Elsinore, Utah, 75 North Center, where friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Joseph Cemetery.  Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
