Nira Vay Eikrem

Nira Vay Jensen Eikrem, 84, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018. She was born June 26, 1933 in Richfield to Irvin Franklin and Alice Evelyn Roberts Jensen. She married Andrew “Andy” Woodrow Eikrem October 30, 1975 in Elko, NV. Their marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Jordan River Temple. Andy preceded her in death September 23, 1997.
Both Nira and Andy had fulfilling careers working for Mountain Bell where Nira was a telephone operator. Nira loved the outdoors and enjoyed playing a variety of sports throughout her lifetime. In her younger years, she played on every sports team she could including basketball, softball, golf, and bowling. She served as the young women’s sports director in various wards and stakes for the LDS church. She and her husband Andy shared a great love for bowling and golf where they competed and won numerous tournaments throughout the state. After Nira’s retirement, they continued to bowl and golf and enjoyed traveling together.
Nira will be remembered most for her pleasant disposition and for her generosity and love for others.
Nira was preceded in death by her husband, Andy; parents, Irvin & Eva; and siblings: Keith (Marilyn) Jensen, Rhea (Mack) Gentry, Mona Lou (Frank) Gentry, Carol (Russell) Grooms. Nira and Andy had no children.  She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 12:00 Noon in the Magleby Mortuary Chapel, where friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
