Finally—Nina is singing with Phil again.
Nina Mae Knaphus Jorgensen peacefully passed into her new life on July 8, 2016 at her home in Richfield, UT surrounded by her family.
She was born September 9, 1927 in Richfield to Andrew and Myrtle Knaphus. She married Phil Jorgensen on January 17, 1945 in San Diego, CA. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. He preceded her in death August 5, 2010.
Nina graduated from Richfield High School in 1945. She served as a military spouse while Phil served in the Navy during WWII. Nina and Phil owned and operated Richfield Coal & Oil since 1947.
She was very active in church and community service, including 25 years as stake and ward Primary chorister. She served as scribe for her husband who was a stake patriarch for many years. She and Phil were always willing to sing at funerals. Many thousands of families were blessed by their sweet spirit. The special love, compassion and generosity she had for family, friends and community has been felt by all. She had a special gift for designing and sewing clothing, cooking, growing and arranging flowers, story telling, writing poetry...and PIES. In fact, Nina was known throughout the valley as "The Pie Lady." She loved serving others and making everyone feel uniquely special. Her children and grandchildren were her number one priority.
Nina is survived by her children: Greg (Margaret), Richfield; Russell (Pamela), Glenwood; Ned (Joyce), Louisville, KY; Teresa Ann (Kent) Nielson, Central Valley; Sonia (David) Miller, Centerville; David (Lynette), Richfield; Jane (Jeff) Larsen, Centerville; James (Kristi), Richfield; 38 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Naomi (Bucky) Clifford, Pleasant View; Bonnie K. Jorgensen, Sigurd; sister-in-law, Margaret Knaphus, Orem.
She is also preceded in death by parents; grandchildren: Joy Jorgensen, Kristie Larsen, Drew Michael Jorgensen-McWilliams; brothers and sisters: Daisy (Ted) Chalk, Aaron Knaphus, Loyd (Joyce) Knaphus, Ned Knaphus, Andrew (Margaret) Knaphus, Dorothy Knaphus, John Knaphus, Leva (Lindon) Roberts, Myrtle Bailey.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 12:00 Noon in the Richfield 10th Ward Chapel, 700 West 200 South. Friends may call on Friday evening from 6 to 8 at the Magleby Mortuary, Richfield or at the church on Saturday10:30-11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Richfield City Cemetery.
The Jorgensen family extends a heartfelt thank you for the special friendship and love shared over the years with Magleby’s and staff. The family also extends appreciation to At Home Health Care and Hospice for the loving care given to Mom during her final days.
