Monte Hermansen
Ephraim, Utah

On Monday, August 12, 2024, Monte Lee Hermansen, beloved husband and father, was finally reunited with his sweetheart at his home in Ephraim. He was 86. Born to Lee and Grace Hermansen, Monte was a member of the last Ephraim Snow High School graduating class in 1955. He attended Snow College where we played baseball and basketball. Monte also served in the Army Reserve until 1963. Monte successfully ran his own excavating business and worked for 22 years at Snow College as a maintenance specialist and heat plant operator, retiring in  2013. He married Mary Lee Nicholls in the Manti Utah Temple on May 21, 1960, and together they raised three boys.

Monte and Mary enjoyed dancing at Palisades and various other Sanpete locations. They were also active members of a Pinochle Supper Club. As a family they spent most of their time in the mountains camping or hunting along with trips to Disneyland, Yellowstone, and Mardi Gras. Later in life they enjoyed Snow College trips to California and traveling with Monte’s sister Audrey and her husband Pete. They loved watching Todd play basketball at Richfield High School, and Monte continued to support their grandchildren and great grandchildren at every sporting event he could attend. Monte was a very skilled large equipment operator who helped many people dig ditches, basements, clear roads, and complete large and small excavation projects. He was also an accomplished woodworker and created many treasures that are on display in the homes of family members. Monte was a successful hunter and never lost his love for the outdoors. His final trips were up the mountain at family camps or on afternoon drives looking for wild deer, elk, or turkeys.

Monte was preceded in death by his sweetheart of nearly 50 years, Mary Lee Nicholls; his parents: Grace Brienholt and Alma Lee Hermansen; brothers: Morris Eugene Hermansen, and Donald Russell Hermansen. He is survived by his sister, Audrey Grace Carter, Springville; and sons: Michael Kay (JoAnn) Hermansen, Ephraim; Jeffery Mont (Stacey) Hermansen, Ephraim; and Todd Morris (Beckie) Hermansen, Ephraim; grandchildren: Wesley (Jessica) Hermansen, Santaquin; Cole (Ciera) Hermansen, Centerfield; Kelsey (Brent) Childs, Ephraim; Tyra Hermansen, Ogden; Tiffany Hermansen, Ogden; and 6 great grandchildren.

A small family service will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Magleby Mortuary in Manti prior to a graveside service with military honors at 11:00 a.m. in the Ephraim Park Cemetery, 620 North Main Street, Ephraim, Utah.
