Montess Gilman

Manti, Utah

Montess Elizabeth Gilman entered into eternal life on July 21, 2016. She passed away in Orem, Utah. She was born in Montrose, Missouri to Henry J. Seleman and Agnes Agatha Seleman on October 19, 1934, and was the oldest of three children. Inheriting her sweet disposition from her mother, she spoiled her family, friends, and even complete strangers with countless random acts of kindness and love.

Always thinking about other people, she made hundreds of quilts for family and friends as birthday and Christmas gifts, as well as for new babies, orphans, the sick, and the elderly, tying each knot with her love of giving selflessly. She provided rides to the blind, prepared meals for any ailing person she heard about in her community, and welcomed people into her life with a smile and memorable chuckle, as if to say "We are already friends."

Known for her world-famous pancakes, she would ask her family and guests what animal shape they would like them in. A giraffe? No problem! An elephant? She knew just the trick! When her family was feeling ill, she would tell them to lie in her "magic bed" where she would care for them and make them well again. Her ability to add her own loving touch to simple things and make them fun and magical is truly what made her so wonderful to know. She made every day a Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah kind of day!

Montess Gilman was an active member and dedicated sister of the LDS Church, which she joined in 1976. Leading by example, she inspired everyone around her to live a good, moral, and meaningful life. Her daily songs, laughter, benevolent spirit, and kindness were contagious, and we are all infected with the love she so effortlessly spread.

Her spirit carries on by her three children: Jared Hoog, Lorna Fowles, and Dana Hoog; her surviving brother, Terry Seleman; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and an extended family of friends from every walk of life.

Montess is celebrating in heaven with her parents; husband, Edward Roger Gilman; brother, Leland Seleman; grandson, Nathan Fowles; as well as many other relatives and friends, who she dearly missed and loved. God has you in His arms. We have you in our hearts.

Montess was interred in the Manti City Cemetery on Saturday, July 23, 2016. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti. Online guestbook at www.maglebymortuary.com
