Mike “Bubba” Smith

Our beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, Michael Merin “Bubba” Smith, 48, passed away May 22, 2012 in Hurricane, Utah. With a police escort to the hospital Mike was born October 25, 1963 in Salt Lake City, Utah; the second of four children to Michael Edward Smith and Madelyn Peterson Semken. Mike married Wendy Jean MacDonald September 8, 1990 in Helper, Utah and shared 21 years living both in Helper and LaVerkin. Together they had two handsome sons Kyle and Kody. These boys are Mike’s pride and joy; he was their best friend, wonderful father and always there for them.
Mike was raised both in Salt Lake City and Helper. After graduating from Carbon High School in Price, Mike began his career working for the family businesses; Texaco Gas Station and later Smith Transit Charter Inc. in Helper which he served as Vice President for fifteen years. He then moved his family to La Verkin which he began a very successful professional truck driving career.
Mike’s greatest joy came from serving his family. Mike will always be remembered for his quick wit, happy laugh, beautiful smile and big bear hugs. Mike loved the outdoors and spending that time with family and friends which included; four wheeling, camping and his greatest love skiing and boating on any lake especially Lake Powell.
Mike is survived by his wife, Wendy Smith; sons: Kyle Merin (Laycee) Smith; Kody Graham Smith; mother, Madelyn Peterson of Price; two sisters, Sue Ann (Scott) Heino of Price; Corinna (Elvin) Anderson of Moab; brother, Corey (Genefer) Smith of Helper. Special nephew and nieces; Joshua Heino, Jessica Heino, Ashley (Dan) Smith, Niqui McNulty, Sydney and Savana Smith. Mother- and father-in-law; Kathleen and Duncan MacDonald of La Verkin; special life long friend Tracy Wilcox and many other family members and friends. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Michael Edward Smith.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 26, 2012, 1:00 p.m. in the La Verkin 4th Ward; 481 North Main Street. Family and friends may join the family for a viewing at 12:30 p.m. at the same location. Funeral services are under the direction of Heideman Hughes Mortuary of St. George.
At Mike’s request cremation services will take place.
Graveside and burial service will take place Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Richfield City Cemetery under the direction of Magleby Mortuary of Richfield.
