Michael Woolsey

Escalante, Utah

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our much loved son, brother, family member, and friend, Michael Eric Woolsey, on July 10, 2020. Mike was born on December 19, 1979 in Panguitch to Eric Griffin and Sheri Michelangelo Woolsey. He will be greatly missed by his parents and his siblings: Jared (Tara) Woolsey, Shane Woolsey, Derek (Lori) Woolsey, and Erica (Travis) Shakespear; fiancée, Courtney Mecham, who brought so much happiness into his life, and her children: Cassidy and Garett Tatman, that he loved being a dad to; as well as many other family members and countless friends. Preceded in death by grandparents: Haynes "Papa" and Iola Griffin Woolsey, John and Twila Cowles Michelangelo.

Mike was larger than life, as anyone who knew him can attest. He had a mischievous grin, grizzly bear voice, thunderous laugh, impressive facial hair, and a tender heart. When he was around you knew it. Mike loved his family. He was a fiercely protective and a loyal big brother, as well as a fun uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Making friends wherever he went, Mike was always willing to help anyone, swap stories, and share whatever he had.

Mike lived life full throttle, and he packed a lot into his short time. His driving was questionable, and could possibly even be described as reckless. He was "all go and no whoa", as he only pushed on the brakes occasionally. Mike worked hard, and he played hard as well. He had a rock solid work ethic, spending most of his life working in the oil field. When he had time off work he loved spending time in the mountains hunting and fishing. Cooking was another one of Mike’s passions, especially grilling and smoking outside, as well as anything spicy. Mike loved wrestling for Escalante High School and he was a tough competitor. He also enjoyed wrestling with his younger brothers (though this was sometimes tough on the living room furniture). He loved dogs and was kind to animals. Everyone in the family knew he had trouble keeping a secret, he couldn’t help it. He never outgrew being so excited that he was the first one up on Christmas morning.

"It is what it is," was Mike’s philosophy. We wish this wasn’t what it is. His death leaves a huge hole in all our hearts, and that truly is the measure of a life well lived.
