Michael Brent Costa
December 7, 1987 — May 30, 2024
Richfield, Utah
Our beloved Michael Brent Costa passed away on May 30, 2024, in Richfield, Utah, at the age of 36, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication. He was born December 7, 1987, in Layton, Utah, to Bruce and Elaine Costa. The Costa family moved to Richfield when Michael was very young, and he was a proud alumnus of Richfield High School. There, he excelled both academically and athletically, playing basketball and football. He attended SUU, Snow College, and Western Governors University. He held leadership positions and was well-liked by classmates, coaches, faculty, employers, and his family and friends. He met and fell in love with his beautiful wife, Rachael Wallingford, while he was an assistant coach at Snow College. They were married on May 11, 2013, in Manti, Utah. They have three beautiful children: Keyara, Daxon, and Thaddeus. Michael loved and adored Rachael and his children very much. He cherished family activities and spending time together. He absolutely loved watching Keyara, Daxon, and Thaddeus play and participate in their many activities. He just glowed with pride and tenderness when he would talk about them. Michael graduated with his Bachelor's Degree in Business while he and Rachael lived in Logan, Utah, for a few years. He was self-motivated in his career and provided unwavering support to his family. Michael was an excellent athlete. He was so fun to watch all through his high school sports career. He loved coaching basketball at the high school and college levels. He even helped coach little league teams in the community. He was a wonderful coach and a great motivator. He talked highly about the many great young men he got to coach each year at both Richfield and North Sevier High Schools. Michael was a loyal supporter of his nieces and nephews in all their endeavors and accomplishments. They will miss him! Michael truly loved spending time with extended family. He would call and talk with his mom every Sunday. He enjoyed watching college football games with his Dad and brothers and loved being together for holidays and family outings. He loved the outdoors, biking, fishing, and camping, especially at Fish Lake. All of the Costa brothers and their Dad, Bruce, were able to go on an unforgettable “guys” trip to a Notre Dame football game a few years ago, which is one memory they will all cherish. Michael is survived by his wife, Rachael Lee Wallingford, his daughter, Keyara, his sons, Daxon and Thaddeus, his parents, Bruce and Elaine Costa, his brothers Nathan (Melinda), Chris (Heather), Kevin (Staci), Wes (Trina), the Wallingford family, and many adoring aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Michael will remain a joy in our lives. We are grateful for the love and kindness he showed to us all. “We would give anything to have one more hug, one more trip, and one more guys weekend to be with you, Michael. To hear you laugh and see you smile. You have a contagious laugh that we loved to hear. Michael, you are deeply loved and are deeply missed. We love you so much and can't wait until the next guy's weekend with you in heaven. Till we meet again.” Love your big brothers, Nate, Chris, Kev, and Wes. Thank you to all who have prayed for and supported Rachael, their children, and their extended families during this difficult time.
