Metta Jane Wilcock Whittaker, 78, passed away May 6, 2017 in St. George. She was born December 8, 1938 in Panguitch to Leonard and Vera Schow Wilcock. She married Larry Sevy Whittaker, May 17, 1958 in the St. George Utah Temple. He preceded her in death, September 4, 2008.
Metta Jane was an active member of the LDS Church where she served faithfully in the ward Young Women’s and Primary presidencies. She also has served in the Relief Society as president, visiting teacher and compassionate service leader.
She has served on the Circleville Town Beautification Committee, was a member of three bunko clubs, she and Larry hosted the town Christmas parties at their home for years. She loved cheering for the Piute Thunderbirds and was an avid Utah Jazz fan.
Her grandchildren and their families were her pride and joy and she loved to spoil them "no matter what their moms said".
She is survived by her children: Cindy (Duane) Benton, South Jordan; Mary (Jim) Payton, Circleville; Janette (Burke) Jones, Cedar City; and Melissa Tonga, Pleasant Grove; 7 grandchildren; brothers: Joseph (Marilyn) Wilcock, Salt Lake City; and Roy (Gail) Wilcock, Enoch; sister-in-law, Sharon Whittaker Rogers, Cedar City; brother-in-law, Charles (Barbara) Whitman, California.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Ryan K. Anderson; sister, Ira Lou Richardson; brothers-in-law: Raymond (Wilda) Whittaker, Gale Whittaker; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Whitman, Joyce Jones.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Circleville 2nd LDS Ward Chapel where friends may call for viewing on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 or Friday morning from 10:30 to 12:30. Burial will be in the Circleville Cemetery.
