Our kind and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, Melvin Poulson, age 89, of Richfield, passed away December 20, 2015, in Provo, Utah. He was born June 3, 1926, in Richfield, a son of Lyman Woodruff and Anna Poulson.
He graduated from Richfield High School, class of 1943. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1945. He attended Branch Agricultural Collage (SUU) in Cedar City , Utah.
Dad married our mother Jean Collins in June 1949. Melvin built and ran Poulson’s Café from 1948-1955, he joined the Utah Highway Patrol in 1955 and retired in 1981.
Melvin received his endowment and had his marriage and children sealed to him in the Manti Temple November 2013.
Melvin enjoyed gardening and loved to share his harvest with family and neighbors. He enjoyed coin collecting and shared his interest with his family. He enjoyed deer hunting with his sons and the time spent with family. His family meant everything to him, and he meant everything to them. As patriarch of our family, he left a wonderful legacy to his family.
He is survived by his children: Karen Chynoweth, St. George; Dan and Debi Poulson, Richfield; Mike and Barbara Poulson, Orem; six grandchildren: Carson and Jamie Chynoweth, Matt and Nicole Chynoweth, Heather and Lyndon Friant, Jennifer and Grant Bastian, McKenna and EJ Toala, Cory Poulson; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Joanne Kotter, Elsinore.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Darrell, Florence, Harriet, Ted; wife, Jean; and his son-in-law, Gordon Chynoweth.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., in the Richfield 3 rd LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the ward Chapel on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Richfield City Cemetery with military rites where Mel will be honored by the Utah Highway Patrol and the VFW Sevier Post #5050.
