Melvin Edward Kludt, 87, passed away July 17, 2012 in Richfield. He was born August 31, 1924 in Hartford, Wisconsin to Charles George Alvin and Edna Emma Anna Rausch Kludt.
He married Ila Dean Sorenson July 18, 1946 in Salt Lake City. The marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple April 10, 1953. She preceded him in death April 7, 2007.
Mel was a veteran of the Navy, having served during WWII.  He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years.  After retirement he worked with UDOT.
He was a member of the LDS Church, where he served in many capacities, including ward and stake clerks.  He enjoyed his calling as home teacher.  Along with his wife, served in the Minneapolis MN mission, which encompassed the area he was born and raised. He was a member of the Richfield Lion’s Club, served with Sevier County Search and Rescue.
He and Ila Dean kept a beautiful yard, it has been a beautiful corner for years.  His hobbies included lapidary, painting and fly tying.
Mel is survived by daughter, Vicki Lynn (Kent) Peterson, Orem; Grandchildren: Rebecca (David) Parchman, Timothy Peterson, Cameron (Sheena) Peterson; great-grandchildren: Cassidy, Daxton, Quinn, Cort, Bry, Kyler, Halle; brothers and sisters-in-law: Phil (Audra) Jensen; Kathy (Mel) Hyatt; Perry (Sally) Sorenson
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Erma Jensen
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Magleby Mortuary Chapel, 50 South 100 West in Richfield, where friends may call on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30.   Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery with military rites by the V.F.W. Sevier Post #5050 and the Utah Honor Guard. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
