Melvin Ellis Coulter, 63, of Mayfield, UT passed away peacefully at his home on January 28, 2017. He was born on April 29, 1953 to Marvin Jay and Dorothy Bailey Maxfield Coulter in Salt Lake City, UT.
Mel was raised in Midvale, UT where he was active in scouting, earning the rank of Eagle Scout. Mel served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Columbia. He married Catherine Healey on June 10, 1988 at the home plate of a baseball diamond. It was the biggest diamond he could find. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Jordan River Temple on March 24, 1990.
Mel retired from the CUCF in Gunnison, UT after 30 years of services. He loved his wife and the road trips on their motorcycles. He enjoyed spending time with his family at their anual Moon Lake trip. Mel was larger than life and loved his family more than anything.
Mel is survived by his wife, Cat; children: Nicole (William) Mackun, Troy Coulter, and Kim Coulter, all of West Jordan; Zac Coulter, Magna; Samantha (Troy) Sorensen, Mayfield; step-children: Brad (Shae) Wilson, Sterling; Christy (Tyler) Adams, Enterprise. He is also survived by sisters: Linda (Steve) Hirst, Farmington; Carleen (Maurice) Deen, Gilbert, AZ; and 13 grandchildren, with one on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents, step-son, Mark Wilson and a granddaughter.
Graveside services and interment will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. in the Mayfield Cemetery with honors by the Utah Department of Correction Honor Guard.
