Melvin Collings
Yorba Linda, CA
Devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Melvin Richard Collings, 90, of Yorba Linda, CA, passed away on April 30, 2022. He was born January 24, 1932 in Monroe, UT to Earl Bohman and Tillie Borg Collings.
Melvin’s career as an educator saw him earn his doctorate degree in education while teaching at Fullerton College in California. He spent many years on the Garden Grove Unified School District Board of Education, also serving as their president.
As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served for many years as the Gospel Doctrine teacher. Going to the temple and doing temple work was incredibly meaningful and important to him.
He will be remembered most by his family as a devoted father who never stopped trying to find ways to express his deep love for them. A man who could always be counted on to remember birthdays and anniversaries with a phone call and a kind word.
He was a tenacious, hard-working and devout man who was beloved by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Terry Ellen Collings; children: Mark Collings, Paul (Ana) Collings, David (Gigi) Collings, Diane (Michael) Schoonmaker, Laurie (Mac) Hines and Mark (Jonna) Akkette; as well as his 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Adam Randolph Collings; brothers; John Collings, Elmer Collings; sister, Elna Reid.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 as 12;00 Noon in the Monroe City Cemetery. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary on Saturday from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti. Online guestbook at www.maglebymortuary.com
