Maxine Sawyers Buchanan died on April 9, 2012 in the care of her son, Robert, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born November 26, 1917 in Bingham, Utah to William Mac and Irene Miller Sawyers. She was the eldest of eight children and spent her early years in Joseph, Utah. She married June V. Buchanan in 1936 and moved to Venice, Utah where she lived in the family home for the past 76 years. She was the mother of four children: Mary June, Robert, Bruce and Lorenzo Dow. June preceded her in death October 26, 1977.

Maxine was an excellent cook, homemaker and avid gardener. She worked at Merrell’s Pharmacy (L.K. Pharmacy) in Richfield for approximately twenty years and was acquainted with many people in the community. She was a dedicated member of the LDS Church and enjoyed serving as a counselor and teacher in the Primary, M.I.A., and Sunday School and later with the Relief Society where she made many special friends, including Margaret Cowley and other close associates.

Maxine was very proud of her pioneer heritage and loved to talk about her history. She was the oldest living member of the L.D. Buchanan extended family. She was a very devoted and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and neighbor.

She is survived by her siblings; Garth Sawyers, Mary Chapman (Ray), Don Sawyers, Betty Lorenz, Linda Baum (Lowell), and Jack Sawyers (Jackie); along with her two sons, Robert (Robyn Eriwata-Buchanan) and Lorenzo Dow, ten grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband June; son, Bruce; daughter, Mary June; and sister, Barbara Julander.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 16 at 12:00 Noon in the Venice Ward Chapel. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Magleby Mortuary, 50 South 100 West, Richfield and Monday from 10:30 to 11:30 am in the Venice Ward Chapel. Internment will be in the Venice Cemetery.
