Max Deen Larsen, son of Max and Maida Larsen, originally of Monroe, died unexpectedly of a pulmonary embolism on Friday January 12, 2018.
Deen was born in Richfield UT on March 6, 1943. He has lived in Baden by Vienna, Austria, since 1973.
His greatest love was for his wife, sons and daughters and grandchildren, and they adored him as well. His youngest brother and three younger sisters will also miss him terribly. He has many nieces, nephews and cousins and our beloved Aunt Betty Lou Worley from Richfield.
Prof. Dr. Max Deen Larsen received his degrees in literature and philosophy at Reed College, Yale University and the University of Vienna. He taught poetry at the Yale School of Music and at the Vienna Music Academy, history of opera at Stanford in Austria and was adjunct professor of music at the University of Alberta in Canada. He also taught at other schools and academies.
Deen, a beloved teacher and "ambassador of Baden" was the founder and director of the Franz Schubert Institute in Austria. Since 1978 master classes have touched the lives of pianists and singers from around the world. Deen always devoted great love and enthusiasm to his teaching activities and lectures. Baden's "Schubert Days" showcase Baden as a globally significant city of music and culture, and Deen has been acclaimed for that recognition.
Deen was laid to rest on January 30, 2018 at the Municipal Parish Cemetery in Baden Austria.
