Maurine Katherine Jensen Gardner, 85, came into this life Dec. 5, 1926, to Andreas Jensen and Florence Christofferson Jensen, in Richfield, and departed July 17, 2012, in Reno, Nev.
At 19 years of age she married our father Willis D Gardner and remained married till his death for a total of 60 years. She gave birth to Paul David Gardner (now deceased) and the three of us, Randall Gardner, Julia Freeman and Linda Lovie-Schlink.
Her hobbies included cake decorating and she was even in the newspaper for her works of art as well as painting and gardening.
In 1972, when she was 46, the family moved to Reno, Nev., where she worked for and retired from Mervyn’s and finished out the 85 years of her life.
She was a cancer survivor and touched the lives of many through her support of the American Cancer Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Gardner; brothers and sisters, Adrian Jensen, Fern Van Garder, Byron “Jared” Jensen, Eugene ”Gene” Jensen, Leslie Jensen, Anna Paton, Joseph “Ray” Jensen and Janice Roberts.
She is survived by her sister, Bessie Jensen Baldwin; her children, Randall Gardner, Julia Gardner Freeman and Linda Gardner Lovie-Schlink; seven grandchildren, Corby Gardner, Christopher Gardner, Cassy Gardner, Crystal Ptak, Shalise Ptak, Jason James and Jacklyn Chambers; and eight great-grandchildren.
We would like to thank Saint Mary’s Hospice, Right at Home and the American Cancer Society and everyone else involved in helping us fulfill her wishes to leave this world while in her own home.
Services will be held Saturday, July 28, at 2 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4751 Neil Road, Reno, NV 89502.
Graveside services and interment will be held Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Richfield City Cemetery.
