MaryLou Neilson

Henrieville, Utah

MaryLou Twitchell Neilson, 71, passed away December 29, 2013 in Panguitch. She was born December 8, 1942 in Hawthorne, Nevada to Desmond and Gretha Henderson Twitchell, the oldest of six children. She learned how to work hard and care for others at a very young age.

After moving to Cannonville as a child, she met the love of her life, Darreld Neilson. They were married on March 21, 1959, in Henrieville and their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple. They made their home in Henrieville where they raised their three children: Toni, Kelly "Zeke" and Sheri.

MaryLou was a very loving, caring and compassionate woman. She was a member of the LDS Church and she loved her family deeply. She and Darreld seemed to do most everything together, whether it was living at the Kaibab while Darreld cut lumber, staying in Page while he worked at the power plant, traveling together on an impromptu road trip, or going on an arrowhead hunt. She was a wonderful cook and passed her culinary talents to her daughters and grandchildren.

She loved Christmas and always had the most beautiful Christmas tree. She was always there to support and love her family, making sure she was at every wedding, baby blessing, and family gathering that was held.

Besides loving their biological family, Darreld and MaryLou fostered many kids in their home, showing them love, support and stability while they cared for them. Tiffany Platero remains close and is still considered a part of the family. MaryLou will be loved and greatly missed by all those who were fortunate to have been loved by her.

MaryLou is survived by her husband, Darreld, Henrieville; children: Toni (Alfred) Foster, Tropic; Zeke (KayeLynn) Neilson, Tropic; and Sheri (Arthur) Miller, Panguitch; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, and 2 on the way; sisters: Cheryl (Lonnie) Pollock, Tropic; Ethel (Marty) Rich, Bryce; brother, LaMonte (Rita) Twitchell, Cannonville.

Preceded in death by parents; sisters: Christine (Ron) Adair; Judy Chynoweth; son-in-law, Russell Hatch.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors and staff at Garfield Memorial Hospital for their loving care of MaryLou.
