Our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and cousin Mary Ella Winkler Hansen Uptain of Richfield, Utah passed away January 14, 2025 at the age of 93. Mary Ella was born October 28, 1931 in Ventura, California to Roy Edwin and Laura Winkler. Mary Ella spent her childhood in Globe Arizona at the Hick’s Family farm surrounded by aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mary Ella married Everett Hansen on March 5, 1948 in Burrville, UT. They were later sealed in the Manti Temple on July 9, 1958. Mary Ella was the mother of 5 children: Kathleen Hansen, Marilyn Robinson, Lowell Hansen, Roy Hansen and Gerry Hansen. 

After Everett’s passing in 1971, she married Ken Uptain. They lived in Texas and Orangeville, Utah. 

Mary Ella was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed belonging to the “Singing Mothers.” She was compassionate and giving. Many families were the recipients of her service. She will be remembered for being an excellent cook.

Mary Ella is survived by her children; Marilyn (Kirt) Robinson, Burrville UT, Lowell (Jackie) Hansen, Yuma AZ, Roy Hansen, Roosevelt UT, Gerry (Debbie) Hansen, Venice UT, sister, Julia Robinson, Seligman AZ. She leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Everett Hansen; husband, Kenneth Uptain; daughter, Kathleen Hansen; sisters, Alice Kolpak and Edwina Mineer.

Graveside services will be Friday, January 24, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the Koosharem Cemetery. The family wishes to express special gratitude to the doctors and staff at Sandstone Nursing Home for their loving care of Mary in the final years of her life.
