Marla Rose Zabriskie Barney, 86, passed away June 24, 2020 in Monroe. She was born September 16, 1933 in Junction, Utah to Horace Marlo and Rose Christine Pirkl Zabriskie. She married Benjamin Nephi Barney, August 27, 1950 in Richfield. Their marriage was solemnized June 19, 1963 in the Manti Temple. Ben preceded her in death December 13, 2017.
A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Marla enjoyed her calling as a visiting teacher. She always enjoyed visiting and catching up with friends. She also volunteered as a Pink Lady at Sevier Valley Hospital for several years. She was member of TOPS and had a lot of fun with the ladies there for many years. Marla enjoyed planting and taking care of a beautiful flower garden. She loved the beautiful sites that nature had to offer. Music was a big part of her life. You could always count on hearing her singing to a tune and tapping her foot to the beat. She was an avid walker. She would walk to and from work every day and to her mother’s home on the other side of town each evening. A fan of the Utah jazz, she never missed a game cheering them on.
Marla loved her family and especially loved being a grandma. She adored her grandchildren. One of her favorite things to do was make fun Halloween sacks for all of her grandchildren each year.
Marla is survived by her children: Doris Barney, West Jordan; Kirk Barney, Venice; Lori (Brad) Whittaker, Richfield; Shayne (Connie) Barney, Aurora; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express gratitude to the staff at Monroe Canyon Assisted Living for their kind and loving care to Mom. She loved her Monroe Canyon family. The family also would like to thank IHC Hospice and their care for her.
