WWII Veteran Macy Burgin passed peacefully in her home in Manti, June 8, 2024. She was 100 years old. Macy was a joy to family and friends lighting up the room with her smile.
Born in Cedar Rapids on February 17, 1924. Her early years spent in Iowa and Colorado, she learned to work hard growing up during the Depression.
She excelled in school always at the top of her class. Upon graduating in 1942, she applied and was accepted to the Cadet Nurses Corp and was assigned to MT. Mercy College were she received her initial training and earned her RN Degree. After graduating she was assigned to the VA Hospital in Des Moines, IA. where she proudly served until the end of WWII.
In 1953 the family moved to California where she accepted a job at West Valley Hospital in Encino as supervisor of the Maternity Ward. While living in CA the family converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she was a devout servant of the Lord the rest of her days.
Wanting to offer her children the advantages of living in a small town they moved to Manti in 1971, where she was Head Nurse at Mayfield Manor until retiring in 1987. She then worked enthusiastically on her genealogy, faithfully serving as an ordinance worker in St. George, Logan and Manti. Also serving as Relief Society President and City Councilwoman while living in Kanab.
Upon her last husbands death in 2009, she moved in with and was lovingly cared for by her daughter Ruth and her son Eric.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, John Allen Haleen, Kest Gerritt Hofstra, Othal “Oats” Ware, and LaMar Burgin. Her son, John Haleen, and grandson Ryan Haleen.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
