Mable Lu Johnson
Richfield, Utah
Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mable Lu Johnson Waters Johnson, 93, returned to her Heavenly Father on February 10, 2022 in Richfield. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Mable Lu was born October 14, 1928 in La Grande, Oregon to Moroni Scott and Mary Alean Ricks Johnson. She was the second of five children.
The family moved to Brigham City, Utah when she was very young. This is where she grew up and married our father, LaMar Waters, on January 28, 1947. They moved to Richfield not long after and this is where she called home for 70 years. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. They were blessed with nine children. LaMar preceded her in death after only 16 years of marriage on July 16, 1963. She married Leon Johnson. He preceded her in death in 1999.
Mom was a selfless wife and mother, even when things were difficult, she was always so gracious and truly glad to see you. She was a woman of quiet strength. Her life was always about hard work and her children. She loved the gospel and her Heavenly Father. She didn’t complain, just kept on moving toward her eternal perspective. She was always an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She loved genealogy work, embroidery, oil painting; and enjoyed gardening, preserving garden produce and preparing meals for her family. We could smell her homemade bread long before we got home from school. Mom was an avid reader. As children we loved it when she would read to us from the books that we would choose together at the Richfield City Library. She always enjoyed singing in the church choir, going to the Manti Temple and scripture study in the various groups she attended. She also enjoyed serving a mission at the Genealogy Library in Salt Lake City.
She is survived by her children: Gerald (Cathy) Waters, Gloria Cook, Mary Lue Waters, DelMar (Kate) Waters, Zandra (Dean) Holgate, Jim (Colleen) Waters, Elaine (Doug) Eberhard; 32 grandchildren, 79 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Horsely.
Preceded in death by her husbands; parents; children: Floyd Waters, Jeanette Roderick; grandson, Brandon Waters; great-granddaughter, Brookelle Raine Waters; siblings: Josephine Barfuss, Mary Jane Waters, Delbert Johnson.
