Lyman H. Rollins, 92, returned to be with his "beautiful lady" on October 26, 2012. Lyman was born January 19, 1920 in Cumberland, Wyoming, and grew up as a child in the Bridger Valley area of that state, learning how to be a hard-working cowboy at an early age. He married Lois Mae Bradshaw in the Salt Lake City, Utah, LDS Temple on September 25, 1940. They settled in Salt Lake, and he worked in the family’s glass shop, while moonlighting at a horse ranch breaking yearlings. He served in the Navy during World War II.

After the war, Lyman and his father, Hayward, sold the glass shop and began training thoroughbred race horses full time, a career that consumed the rest of their lives. Lyman finally retired last year at the age of 91. His career took him to most of the race tracks in the west, and some in the east. He trained horses that set track and world records, served faithfully on the board of the Arizona Thoroughbred Breeders Association, and received many local and state honors, include being inducted into the Nebraska Racing Hall of Fame, and receiving a lifetime achievement award from the State of Arizona Racing Commission.

Although Lyman loved and excelled in his career, his first love was his wife and his posterity. Lyman is survived by his children, sons Brent Rollins (Francie) of Cave Creek, AZ, and Val Rollins (Joyce) of Layton, UT, and daughters Nancy Rollins and Stormie Menniti (Bill), and daughter-in-law, Sharon (Bradley) Rollins, all of Phoenix, as well as 27 grandchildren, 78 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren (with more on the way!). He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sister, son (Bradley), and daughter (Roxanne), and friends and relatives too numerous to mention. He was loved by myriads of people from all walks of life, and will be deeply missed. Happy trails, Dad!

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the Phoenix North Stake LDS building, 2939 West Rose Garden Lane, Phoenix. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 East Greenway Road in Phoenix, and Saturday morning at the stake center after 9:00 a.m. Burial will be at Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6450 W. Northern, Glendale, AZ.
