LuElla Thornton
Monroe, Utah
A yearning to reunite with husband, family, and friends has been fulfilled with the passing of LuElla Peterson Thornton on November 30, 2012, in Salt Lake City, just 4 days short of her 90 th birthday.
LuElla loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed their visits, but she knew it was time to go home. As much as we all loved her, we also knew it was time for her to be with Grandpa "Bud", and her parents, sisters, and brother.
LuElla Peterson was born December 4, 1922, in Glenwood, Utah, to Wilford Lorenzo and Beulah Elvira Jessen Peterson. She was the 5 th of seven children. She married Walter Nathan "Bud" Thornton February 22, 1941 in Glenwood. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple February 22, 1952.
Throughout her life, LuElla loved to be busy and active, especially with her family. She loved to spend time with them, playing games and going camping, hunting, and fishing. She kept her hands busy crocheting baby afghans, tablecloths, and hot pads, and cooking for everyone who came to visit. She was once told that she would have been rich if she hadn’t fed everyone that came.
Hard work didn’t frighten LuElla. She sewed parachutes during the war, served in various church positions, and ran the Pacific Trail sewing plant in Richfield for many years while she raised her family. After retiring in 1981, LuElla and "Bud" served missions to Mississippi and Arizona, and a temple mission to Manti. They loved to travel while spending quality time with each other.
LuElla is survived by her children, Ann (Larry) Holloway, Sandy; Dawn (Michael) Redmond, Salt Lake City; J. L. (Mary) Thornton, Clearfield; Dean (Lecia) Thornton, Eagle Mountain; 12 grandchildren, and 38 great-grandchildren.
LuElla was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, "Bud"; brother, Evan; sisters, Elda, Irene, LeOra, Delma, and Maurine; grandsons, Ricky and John Thornton.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at 12 Noon in the Monroe LDS Stake Center, 140 South Main, Monroe. Friends may call at the stake center on Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Monroe City Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
