LuDean Wilcox Harris
Venice, Utah
Our sweet wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, LuDean Wilcox Harris, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2016 at the age of 79 in Richfield, Utah. LuDean was born on September 29, 1937 in Rexburg, Idaho to Dean and Lula Wilcox. Her family moved to Lehi, Utah when she was young girl where she graduated from high school. She attended nursing school at BYU where she graduated as a registered nurse. While she was attending BYU she met the love of her life, Melvin Harris. They were married on June 23, 1959 in the Manti LDS Temple. They made their first home in Pleasant Grove and then moved to Salt Lake. After living in the city for a few years they decided that they wanted to raise their family on a farm, that is when they moved to Venice, Utah where they have lived for 52 years. LuDean worked as a nurse in many capacities: doctor’s office, hospital, teaching nurse’s aide at Sevier Valley Tech (now Snow College, Richfield), and in public health, which was her favorite. She ended her nursing career as a Public Health Nursing Supervisor for the Central Utah Six-County area.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many positions in Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society. She also served as a temple worker in the Manti Temple with her husband for five years, a calling they enjoyed doing together. Her greatest love was her family, she always enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family.
LuDean is survived by her husband, Mel Harris; and their children: LuAnn (Tim) Smith, Linda (David) Baugh, Lynette Shirey, Ben (Laurie) Harris, Richard (Edith) Harris; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; brothers: Robert (Louise) Wilcox and Kenneth (Ada) Wilcox; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law, Calvin Shirey.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Richfield Care Center for the kind and loving care they gave to LuDean.
