    Our sweet mother, LuAna Powell Nielson, age 91, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Orem. She was born to LaVar K. and Lucile Sampson Powell on October 10, 1932, raised in Glenwood, and lived most of her life in Richfield. 
    She  graduated from Richfield High School in 1950 and married Calvin Gerald Nielson on September 6, 1952. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple on December 19, 1974. Calvin passed away on July 26, 2006. 
    Mom worked as a bookkeeper at various companies including Lynn Poulson Distributing, Sevier Valley Hospital, Pearson Pontiac Cadillac, and LA Young Construction. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed serving in various callings. She made many friends through her participation in work, civic clubs, bridge clubs, BPW, and Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Her hand-dipped chocolates and Christmas candies were a favorite for many. Later in life she became an avid Utah Jazz fan. She was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend and will be greatly missed. 
    She is survived by daughter, Cathy, Orem; sons: Greg (Michelle), Santa Clara; Mike (Pam), Aliso Viejo, CA; and Brad (Kellie), Star Valley Ranch, WY; 12 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. 
    She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; and siblings: Ray L. Powell, Glen K. Powell, Dorth Rickenbach Jensen, Naomi Chappell, and LaVar J. Powell. 
    Mom resided at Summerfield Assisted Living in Orem for the past six years, and the family wishes to thank the staff for the love and support they gave her while she lived there. 
    Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 19, 2024, at 12:00 Noon in the Magleby Mortuary in Richfield. Friends may call from 10:00 to 11:30 am prior to the services.
