A devastating and final fall took our precious mother, grandmother and friend, Lola “Jean” Nielson Riddle on May 17, 2017, in Richfield. Jean was born May 29, 1929 in Inverury (now Central Valley), Utah to Lewis Franklin and Harriett Roberts Nielson. She married Forrest Blair Riddle on June 1st, 1947 in Richfield. He proceeded her in death far too soon on November 10th, 1997.
Jean was blessed to be 1 of 11 children who nurtured and loved her throughout her life. What a reunion it was in heaven when Forrest, her son Randy, her parents, and 9 brothers and sisters, as well as many loved ones greeted her. Jean was raised in Koosharem and graduated from high school in Salina where she also worked at Mom’s Café.
Work and treasuring family and friends were her cup of tea. She worked hand in hand and heart to heart with her beloved Forrest in every capacity. She was his partner in every way, whether it be selling Kirby parts at all hours, running to horseraces around the country or maintaining many homes and apartments in which they invested. She was the driving force and loving hand behind Daddy’s prosperity and happiness.
Amazingly enough, she found pleasure and plenty of time to love her children! She cooked and sewed and nurtured our dreams and heartaches with a love we’ll never know again. She fed every person that came to the door and cut all the neighbors’ hair and mowed their lawns if they needed it. She worked and loved nonstop where there was a need for her and she never quit. Her dear fragile body couldn’t labor anymore, but oh her heart was of tougher stuff. Her brand of unconditional love was one that touched the deepest recesses of one’s heart and soul. Her mind was so very sharp and she was a most trusted confidante and advisor to all. She instinctively knew what we needed before we did.
Then her beloved grandchildren arrived, the first of which lived across the street. Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren were to come, and what a joy they were. They sneaked calls and begged to sleep over at Grandpa and Grandma’s, and needless to say they were welcomed with open arms. Every child, grandchild and great-grandchild “knew” they were the favorite. Those precious babies became the joy of their lives!
She is survived by children: David (Rosalee) Riddle, Layne Riddle, Racquel (Milo) Bishop, Tyla Jean Riddle; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Lila Gaye (Garrett) Billings; sisters-in-law, Delores Nielson, Mary Lou Nielson; brother-in-law, Garn Anderson, and many loving nieces and nephews.
She is also preceded in death by her parents; son, Rand Lee Riddle; siblings: Zelma Gibbs, Calvin J. Nielson, Arlo Nielson, Fay (June) Nielson, Budd (Marilyn) Nielson, Darrell (Louie) Nielson, Weldo (Maizie) Nielson, Tex Franklin Nielson, DeEsta Anderson,
