Leslie Dale Larsen, of Gunnison, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on June 16, 2018 in Gunnison. He celebrated his 93rd birthday in April of this year. Leslie was born in Gunnison to Niels and Christina Larsen on April 3, 1925. He was educated in local schools, after which he served for three years in the Pacific during World War II. Leslie married Jean Buchanan on December 10, 1947. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple on January 5, 2002.

One of his biggest joys was that of being a grandpa. He loved holding the new babies and taking grandchildren camping and fishing. For many years he and Jean would join her siblings and take their travel trailers south for the winter. Leslie loved his garden. Many neighbors, friends, and family were the recipients of his garden produce. Leslie was a farmer at heart, but construction was his life’s occupation. He was a born leader and quickly moved to leadership/managerial positions in the companies he worked for. He enjoyed teaching and helping young men to develop their skills both on the job site and in life.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; his children: Richard Larsen, Leslie Jean Baguley, Ruth (Marshall) Sorenson, and Kent (Pam) Larsen; 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. His parents and all of his siblings preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 11 am in the Gunnison Stake Center, 80 West Center, where friends may call Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday morning from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at the Gunnison City Cemetery with military honors by the Gunnison American Legion Post #104.
