Leah Jane Jorgensen Carter, 96, passed away December 24, 2023 at her home in Sigurd.  Leah was born March 17, 1927 on St. Patrick’s Day at the Jorgensen Ranch in Sigurd to Rulon Grant and Frances Beatrice Snedeger Jorgensen.
After graduation she went to Salt Lake City to work until two days after WWII.  She came home and soon married the love of her life, John Billy Carter on January 22, 1946 in Las Vegas, NV. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple July 12 1978. Billy preceded her in death on December 7, 2011.
Leah worked as an auditor and assistant manager for Sears in Richfield for five or six years. Billy and Leah were always going and doing something: boating, fishing, hunting, bowling and visiting their children and grandchildren.  They traveled the Alaskan highway before it was officially a highway.
Leah always talked about how much her parents spoiled her and she loved every minute of it.  The year Chicken Pox was everywhere in Sigurd, she would paint a spotted chicken on everyone’s fence post.  She loved people and to talk to anyone anywhere and Billy would wait patiently in the car and say I guess your mother found someone to talk to.
For their 50th wedding anniversary, they took a their entire famliy to Hawaii for a week’s vacation. They loved going to Mexico fishing and loved the people. They and their friends took clothing and even a deep freeze to them.  Leah dearly loved life and was uncertain about leaving her life she loved, the home she and Billy built, her daughter came and cared for her in their home for 2½ years so Leah didn’t have to leave, and some stories were told that can be passed on with other wonderful memories the family has.  Leah will be dearly missed by those who loved and even just talked with her.
She is survived by her children: Jeannette Veater Nelson, Centerville; Stan B (Wendy) Carter, Draper; 4 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Milton Shan (Lorraine) Jorgensen, Joe Grant (Bonnie) Jorgensen.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 12:00 Noon in the Sigurd Ward Chapel, where friends may call from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Richfield Cemetery.
