Lawrence J. "Zonie" Naser
Richfield, Utah
Lawrence J "Zonie" Naser, 89, passed away at home in Richfield on October 23, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was born to John "Jack" Rudolf and Ina LaVern Pope Naser, April 16, 1927 in Monroe. He married the love of his life, Jean Fuellenbach, April 16, 1948, which was both of their birthdays. She preceded him in death July 10, 1999.
Zonie had a wonderful life of enjoying family, raising and racing thoroughbred horses, hunting, fishing, camping, and farming. He loved to be on Monroe Mountain especially riding his horse, Midge. At age 16, he learned the art of shearing sheep from his dad, and helped many farmers in the valley with their herds. He enlisted in the Navy at age 17 during WWII, after which he worked for the telephone company. He worked at the Richfield Reaper for 18 years. He owned and operated Richfield Sanitation Service for 26 years. He was very proud of his farm and worked very hard his whole life. He was a member of the LDS Church.
Zonie was a founding member and first president of the Sevier County Horse Breeder's Association. He won the Utah Futurity with two horses that he raised. He served the community as Elk's president and long-time supporter.
Zonie was cheerful and upbeat with a very positive outlook on life. We all loved to be with him, hear his stories, learn from his great wisdom and sayings. He and Jean's home was full of love and laughter. He helped so many people, had many friends, and always opened his home to everyone.
He has a legacy of love for his family and there was nothing he enjoyed more than the family get-togethers. Zonie was devoted to his eternal companion, Jean, and never missed the opportunity of sharing the many good times they enjoyed. He was the best husband, dad, "Grandpa Zonie", brother, and friend; and we loved him dearly. We will certainly miss him.
The family would like to thank Home Health and Hospice for their help these last several months, especially Pat Lee, Doreen Nielson and Hailey Nielson, who provided so much help, support and loving care to Dad.
Zonie is survived by his children: Don (Marylene) Naser, Richfield; Linda (Fred) Spencer, Sandy; John (Kristine) Naser, Holladay; Chet (Shelley) Naser, North Logan; 12 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren; sisters: Mary Hansen, Washington City; Helen Christensen, St. George.
