Larry Snow Coombs

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend Larry Snow Coombs, 81, of Monroe, passed away from this mortal world at the Sevier Valley Hospital in Richfield, on August 11, 2016 from complications of a fall.

He was born on July 30, 1935 in Boulder, Utah to Ephraim Hyrum and Florence Mary Snow Coombs. He was the 11th child in a family of 15. He attended school in Boulder and Escalante.

As a young man, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Western Sates mission serving in Colorado, Nebraska, and New Mexico. After serving his mission, he attended college at Cedar City and Logan, graduating in 1961 with a BS degree in Agricultural Education. He taught school in Escalante for four years, Richfield for two years, and Monroe for 24 years. During this time, he also owned and operated his own farm and cattle operation. He received a number of honors in the FFA organization, plus two national awards from the Bureau of Land Management. He served in many LDS Church positions in his ward and stake.

He married his college sweetheart, Carol Elizabeth Hood of Beaver, June 25, 1959 in the St. George Temple. Their children are David Hood and Miyuki Kurokawa Coombs of Monroe, Robert Hood Coombs of Richfield; one granddaughter and one great-grandson. Larry is also survived by special friends, Shane and Janene Erickson and their family of Monroe.

In 2002 and 2003, Larry and Carol served in Kirtland and Hyrum, Ohio which is in the Cleveland Ohio LDS Mission.

His living siblings are Sarah May, Karen, Elaine, Anne, Mary, Anthony, and Vard Coombs. He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings; Clinton, Kay, Ross, Eva, Theresa, and Alonzo "Lonnie".

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Monroe Stake Center, located at 140 South Main in Monroe. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary in Richfield on Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 or at the church in Monroe on Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30. Burial will be in the Monroe City Cemetery.
