Larry Whitlock Burr, 79, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2015. He was born November 18, 1935 in Burrville, Utah to Reed Smoot and Eva Whitlock Burr.
He acquired a strong work ethic ranching as a young man. He graduated from Utah State University with a mechanical engineering degree. In 1965, he moved to Saginaw, Michigan to work for General Motors Corp. He married Shirley Reeve on April 10, 1981 in the Salt Lake Utah Temple.
Larry retired after more than 46 years with Saginaw Steering Gear/Delphi Corporation/Nexteer. In 2012 he was inducted into the Nexteer Automotive Hall of Fame. In addition to more than fifteen patents, Larry contributed many designs that are still used throughout the automotive industry today. He also received recognition from suppliers for improvement to their product quality. Larry specialized in Electromechanical devices in steering columns. His special expertise in automotive theft was featured in the Wall Street Journal.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In addition to serving in many church leadership positions throughout his life, he generously shared his time, skills and talents with those in need. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking - crafting quality furniture for his family. He was the proud father of five Eagle Scouts.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley and their four sons, Justin R. Burr of Columbus, Ohio, Jason W. (Abbie) Burr of Orem, Nathan J. (Hillary) Burr of Spanish Fork, Ryan J. (Mary) Burr of Dearborn, MI; three grandsons. He is also survived by two children from a previous marriage: Randon J. Burr of Pleasant Grove and Lori Kaye (Larry) Gleim of Orem and their six children; a brother, Jack F. (Lora) Burr of Koosharem and sister, Janet Olcott of Eagle Mt.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the LDS Ward Chapel located at 1415 North Center Road in Saginaw, MI. Interment will be in the Burrville Cemetery on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 12:00 Noon.
Flowers for the service in Michigan may be arranged through the W. L. Case Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, Saginaw, MI and for the Interment services in Utah through the Magleby Mortuary, 50 South 100 West, Richfield, Utah.
