Our loving mother, LaPreal Gates Olsen, 89, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2020 at her home in Axtell, Utah. She was the wife of the late Rex N Olsen and the mother of four children: Connie (Jimmy) Keisel, Dennis (Colleen) Olsen, Carrie (Leslie) Edwards, Gayle (Ron) Ball.

LaPreal was born on January 19, 1931 in Salina, Utah to William "Bill" and Elthera Nelson Gates. She married Rex N Olsen on May 20, 1949 in the Manti Temple. They were married for 65 wonderful years. He preceded her in death on October 11, 2013.

LaPreal was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in various positions, including Relief Society president. She was a big BYU fan and loved watching their football and basketball games. She also loved the Utah Jazz and seldom missed a game. She enjoyed quilting and over the years has made hundreds of beautiful quilts. She loved to travel and enjoyed many fun trips with family and friends.

Mom was kind, nurturing, compassionate and very generous. Her most precious possession was her family whom she was very proud of and she loved spending time with them. She had 14 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Jelene Parker and Maxine (John) Gafa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex; parents; brothers, Grandon Nelson and Keith Gates; granddaughter, Mindee Lee Olsen; great-grandchildren: Kacee Lee Ziegler, Michael and Gabriel Stevenson.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at 12:00 Noon in the Axtell LDS Ward Chapel where friends may call from 10:00 to 11:30 am. Burial will be in the Gunnison City Cemetery.
