LaMar "L. J." Dale Reid Jr., unexpectedly and tragically died early Saturday morning, August 27, 2016 at a friend’s home in Henderson, NV. Born August 25, 1994 in Las Vegas to the late LaMar Dale Reid Sr. and Aleasha Magleby Reid Pelka. His father was a glazier and superintendent for Heinaman Contract Glazing. L.J.’s mother was Miss Nevada USA 1979, a professional dancer with Halellujah Hollywood-MGM Grand Hotel; Lido de Paris-Stardust Hotel; City Lites-Flamingo Hotel. He married Ashley Dinsmore on October 3, 2014.
L.J. attended Las Vegas Day School, kindergarten through 8th grade; then Faith Lultheran High School and finished at Clark High School. He achieved the rank of a Life Scout with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attended the 100 year National Scout Jamboree in Virginia in 2010, and with his troop toured Washington DC and visited his uncle, Senator Harry Reid.
L.J. had the pleasure of going on a Mediterranean Cruise in June 2008 to Italy, Egypt, Israel, Turkey, the Greek Islands, and Greece. He was a certified scuba diver, snowboarded with his cousins, played soccer and karate, but his first love was playing his guitar. He was devoted to his younger brother, Tony, who has Cerebral Palsy, showing him he could be anything he wanted to be. He helped take care of his mom when she was in a wheel chair for 4 years awaiting hip replacement surgeries. His best bud was his dog, Rowdy.
L.J. is survived by his wife, Ashley; son, Jaxon Calvin; mother, Aleasha; stepfather, Todd; brother, Tony Pelka; mother-in-law, Kathleen Dinsmore; step-father-in-law, David Cromer; grandmother, Ginger Magleby; uncle Curtis Magleby; aunts: Trudy (Robert) Norton, Kathy (Mark) Teft, Christie (Andy) Reid; great-uncles, Senator Harry (Landra) Reid, Jack (Diane) Avery, Ronnie (Elaine) Avery; great-aunt Mavis Kelly; cousins D. G. Timothy (Janet) Kelly; Patrick (Debbie) Kelly, CJ, Jacob, Dylan, Dee, Zachary, and Jordan Magleby; Ryan, Elise, Katlin, Jason, Kelly, and Konnett Ballinger, Dominque, Sargent, and Janet Reidhead
Preceded in death by grandparents: The Honorable Calvin C. Magleby, Dale & Edith Reid; uncles, Michael & Darryl Magleby; great-uncle, Don Reid.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 12:00 Noon in the Charleston LDS Ward Chapel, 3400 West Charleston Las Vegas, Nevada, where friends may call from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Searchlight Cemetery.
