Marvin Kim Peterson, 70, of Central Valley, Utah, passed away July 27, 2020 surrounded by his wife and children, in St. George, Utah after a short battle with glioblastoma brain cancer. He was born February 12, 1950 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Marvin G and Olive Ethel Taft Peterson.

Kim grew up in Richfield, graduating from Richfield High School in 1968 where he enjoyed football, baseball, and especially wrestling. He married Peggy Lee Christensen, August 18, 1972 in the Manti LDS Temple. Kim attended Southern Utah State College and received an Associate's Degree in Police Science in 1973. Kim was often known as "The Phone Man" and spent nearly 45 years fixing telephones all across the state.

He loved his country and was proud of his military service. He enlisted in the Utah Army National Guard in 1970, serving with A Battery 2nd Battalion 222nd Field Artillery Regiment. After 20 years he transferred to the United States Army Reserve as an Artillery Instructor at Fort Douglas. He knew down to the day how long he served — 27 years, 2 months, and 27 days.

Kim was currently serving his second term as mayor of Central Valley. He loved the town and loved serving the people. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served for 35 years as the ward membership clerk, a calling he loved.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy, Central Valley; children: Krista (Craig) Hansen, Delta; Lance (Iris) Peterson, Lyman; Joelle (Brad) Eyre, Central Valley; Maren (Shawn) Pollock, Richfield; 15 grandchildren; siblings: Russ (Carol) Peterson, Annabella; Randall (Shelli) Peterson, Glenwood; Kurtley (Maxine) Peterson, Central Valley; and Peggy’s siblings: Debra (Wayne) Bezanson, Kathryn (Ralph) Brown, Terry (Penni) Christensen, and Amy (Justin) Peterson; mother-in-law, Betty Christensen, Central Valley. Preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Quinn Christensen.

In lieu of flowers, please fly the American flag on Saturday, August 1st in Kim’s honor, or perform an act of kindness for someone. Kim truly loved his friends and enjoyed the visits he had with each of them.
