Kent Stevens

Monroe, Utah

On Tuesday, 28 November 2017, our good brother, uncle and friend Kent Hansen Stevens passed beyond this world to be with our parents, sister Nancy, brother Victor and others gone before.

He was born at home, west of Monroe, healthy and happy, July 26, 1941, the second of five children to parents who looked forward to his coming. His childhood was a happy one filled with family, adventure, sports, friends and work. He lived 76 years and taught us much about determination and love.

Unimaginable to most, Kent endured the pain and restrictions of Ankylosing Spondylitis for over 40 years. His life may be punctuated with the simple notes on his refrigerator: "Don’t sweat the small stuff" and "everything is small stuff." He handled suffering admirably, living a life of resourcefulness, generosity, worth, and value. He was a concerned and skilled caretaker to our parents. He was thoughtful and generous to many and sensitive to some who were ignored by others. He took nieces and nephews on countless adventures in his orange 4x4 Blazer: to fish, hunt deer or rabbits, find autumn leaves or Christmas trees. Some of these roads were barely roads and it didn’t seem to phase him! He always had a pack of red bubble gum for those who wanted a stick. He was the first in the family to have a movie and video cameras and develop film. Nieces and nephews loved to videotape with his camera. His movies and videos are on CDs and will be treasured for generations to come.

He was resourceful, keenly independent, self sufficient, and could repair anything. He owned and maintained rental properties most of his life and did his own carpentry, carpet laying, plumbing and electrical work. As the need arose, he also repaired TVs, cars, refrigerators, chains saws, stoves, washers and dryers, etc.

He attended Snow College, completed a correspondence course in Art and graduated from Weltech College and graduated as an Electronics Engineering Technician.

Kent is survived by his big brother Mitchell (Carmen) Stevens, and baby sister Carolyn (John) Campbell, and 21 nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by our parents Lyle & Leah Hansen Stevens, and siblings Nancy (Dennis) Chapman, and Victor (Dianne) Stevens.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Joseph Ward Chapel, 75 North Center Street, Elsinore, Utah. Viewings will be held Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Magleby Mortuary in Richfield, and Saturday morning at the ward chapel in Elsinore from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Burial will be in the Monroe City Cemetery with military honors by the Utah Honor Guard.
