Kent Sargent Outzen, entered eternal life on May 9, 2017. He passed away at his home in Central Valley. His spirit is carried on by his loving wife, Susan Staples Outzen, two children and their spouses: Chad (Jayne) Staples Outzen, Central Valley, Utah; Mary Ellen (Wade) Wohlforth, Nephi, Utah; 7 grandchildren and their spouses: Brandon (Sara) Outzen, Jordan Outzen, Whitney (John) Edwards, Kylie Turner, Kira (Andrew) Turner Larsen, Nick Wohlforth, Mason Kent Wohlforth; sisters: Lois (Eugene) Curtis and Dorothy (Larry) Barney; sister-in-law, Jeane Staples; and many extended family and friends.

Kent was born to James Warren and Laurell Jean Sargent Outzen on December 10, 1941 in Richfield, Utah. He spent his childhood in Marysvale, Utah. He and a brother, James Larry Outzen, a sister, Janette Outzen (Tom) Atherly was raised with the James Sargent family which included many aunts, uncles and cousins. He attended the schools in Marysvale and graduated from Marysvale High School. Shortly after graduating, Kent became a member of the Utah National Guard Battery A, 2nd Battalion, 222 Artillery, where he served honorably.

Kent married his sweetheart, Susan Mary Staples, on March 26, 1966 in Central Valley, Utah. They made a brief stay in Ogden, Utah where he worked at Gale Electric and Rio Grande Railroad. As children joined their family, they moved to Central Valley to establish their home. He was employed at the Utah Department of Transportation as a Level 4 Transportation Technician. He had a very successful career with UDOT and retired after 31 years.

Kent’s greatest joy in life was his family. He spent his entire life in selfless service to all of us. He also loved his four legged companions, Patches and Toby. He was a member of the LDS Church.

Kent lived a full and active life with numerous interests and loves. He was fortunate to be able throughout his life to pursue his passion, prospecting. He always had a pocket full of rocks from somewhere! He developed a love and appreciation early in life for the land and mountains, especially the Marysvale and Tushar Mountains where he spent so much of his growing years. He recognized the strength and peace that they brought to him. Throughout his life, he also enjoyed many other outdoor activities including camping, fishing, 4-wheeler and RZR riding.

In later years, one of his favored past-times was watching his grandchildren’s activities, especially his grandsons play ball. He traveled the state watching football, baseball, and basketball games. He remains one of their biggest fans. And we, your family remain your biggest fan. You will be in our hearts every day, we love you Dad! "See you next trip."

Kent was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents: James and Violet Sargent, brother, James Larry Outzen; sisters: Janette Outzen Atherly and Kathy Outzen Merchant; father and mother-in-law, Bert and Frances Staples; brother-in-law, Tony Staples; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of Intermountain Hospice and the Central Valley 1st Ward. Their dedication and effort to provide quality care and support has been a heartwarming blessing and comfort to our entire family.

We thank God for the gift of Dad’s life and the blessing of the time we spent with him.

Funeral services honoring Dad will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 12 Noon at the Magleby Mortuary Chapel, 50 S 100 W, Richfield, Utah where friends may call Monday from 6-8 p.m. or Tuesday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 am Burial will be at the Richfield City Cemetery.
