Kent Robertson
Richfield, Utah
Our cherished husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Kent Ferdinand Robertson passed away peacefully on December 7, 2016 surrounded by his family in Hurricane, Utah.
Kent was born August 9, 1937 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Russell and Christie Clark Robertson. He spent his early years in Idaho, California and Hawaii, enjoying swimming and running on the track team and developing a love of sports and competition. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Oahu, Hawaii and began his post-secondary education at the Church College of Hawaii (now BYU-Hawaii). He was always proud of the fact that he was the first student to pay tuition at the new school.
Kent served in the Army Reserves for six years and was a staunch defender of our nation and all things America. From 1958-1960 he served an honorable LDS mission in Australia. Upon his return, he attended Brigham Young University, and in 1964, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Social Studies.
He met his sweetheart, Gloria Jean Gaines, in Richfield when they were both new teachers. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 19, 1967. His love for her was evident in every aspect of his life, for she was the most important person in it. He was an example of what every husband should strive to be. For thirty years, he was a favorite teacher at Richfield Junior High School and Red Hills Middle School where he loved teaching US History. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and family doing the things they loved; golfing, watching BYU sports, traveling, bowling, and watching his grandchildren in their many activities.
Kent worked his entire life to teach his children, and later his grandchildren, to love and serve others and to grow in the Gospel. He exemplified a Christ-like love and service for those he came in contact with through missionary work, temple work, and the many church callings he held. He and Gloria served LDS missions in the West Indies (Barbados, Trinidad, and Guyana), Singapore (West Malaysia), and the Cochabamba, Bolivia LDS Temple. They also worked in the Manti Temple for nearly a decade. He will always be remembered for being a caring, loving, and supportive husband, father, and friend.
Kent is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Gloria Robertson; children: Cindy (Max) Barker, Hurricane; Brent (Libby) Robertson, Pleasant Grove; and Alan Robertson, Richfield; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three siblings: Russell (AnnaLou) Robertson, St. George; Kathlyn (Max) Tolbert, St. George; and David Robertson, Richland, Washington. Preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Lena Robertson.
