Kenneth "Sonny" King

Antimony, Utah

Our loving family patriarch, Kenneth "Sonny" Gates King, 82, joyfully reunited with his eternal sweetheart, Maxine, on January 27, 2014, in Antimony, after 27 years. Sonny was born on March 14, 1931, in Richfield to Lyman and Stella King. He was the eighth of nine children. His summers as a youth in Antimony planted deep roots for a lifetime rich in cowboy heritage.

Sonny married his high school sweetheart, Maxine Anderson. They were later sealed in the St. George LDS Temple. She preceded him in death, October 7, 1986. They were blessed with four children, Kerry (Rannelle) King, Fairview; Sunnie (Bart) Brown, Fayette; Kasey (Heidi) King, Antimony; Kenny (Suzee) King, Midvale; 19 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. Dad's greatest joy was his family.

Grandpa will be most remembered for the King Christmas Party and the Labor Day Campout. Sonny was so proud of his posterity of 74 with two more arriving this year. He will be greatly missed by all.

Sonny served in the Navy and on the Antimony Town Board. He was a cattle rancher and farmer right to the end. He was awarded the 'Local Cowboy of the Year' Award in 2010. He was very proud to carry on the tradition of his fathers by farming the original homestead in Antimony. Cattle drives, hunting, Dutch-oven cooking and wonderful times with many, many friends are cherished memories.

He is survived by his children; sisters, Ruth (Bruce) Morgan, Ventura, CA, and Sheren Kimball, Camarillo, CA; brothers and sisters-in law, Garth Hawley, Annabella; Valeria King, Antimony; Virginia Jensen, Claremont, CA; and Tim (Sharon) Anderson, Sigurd; and foster son, Burton Damon.

Also preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Ronald King, Della Petersen Washburn, Faye Neilsen, Eugene King, Eva Andersen and Clyda Deneke.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Antimony LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call Friday, from 6-8 p.m. at the Magleby Mortuary, Richfield and Saturday at the ward chapel from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Antimony Cemetery with military rites by the V.F.W.
