Kenneth "Ken" Roland Gurney, 79, our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully in his home in Lost Creek on July 11, 2015. Ken was born on December 26, 1935 in Provo, Utah to Francis J. and Anna LaVerde Scorup Gurney.
Ken graduated from North Sevier High School in 1954. He was active in Future Farmers of America and received the State Farmer and American Farmer awards. He earned his pilot’s license. Ken then attended Snow College and Brigham Young University. He also served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Ken was an active member of the LDS Church. He married Janice Barney on September 20, 1957 in the Manti Temple. Together they raised four children. Jan passed away on March 11, 2013.
Ken received the Utah Young Farmer of the Year award in 1961. He enjoyed participating at local stock shows and later enjoyed watching and supporting his children and grandchildren. He was involved in the family livestock operation.
Ken enjoyed summers staying in the Scout Cabin at Niotche and the Sweet Water Rider’s Camp, and winters on the West Desert. Ken was also an owner of Gurney Trucking, Inc. and enjoyed working with his family on a daily basis.
Ken is survived by his children: Alan (Vicki) Gurney, Lost Creek; Ann (Jim) Shaw, Aurora; Scott (Jodi) Gurney, Aurora; Brett (Cindy) Gurney, Saratoga Springs; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brothers, John Gurney, Boyd (Judith) Gurney; sister, Kathleen (Steve) Mohan; foster sister, Mary Lou Miller.
Also preceded in death by parents; grandson, Seth Gurney; sister, Alene Eisel; sister-in-law, Ralphenia Gurney.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Aurora LDS 2 nd Ward Chapel, where friends may call Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. or Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Aurora City Cemetery with military rites by the Salina American Legion Post #36.
